Sunil Gehani
A Caribbean Dreamer with Big Plans
Few words
About Me
I’m Sunil Gehani, but everyone calls me Sunny. I was born on March 12, 1974, in the bustling city of Mumbai, India, to a simple family—my dad was a doctor, and my mom took care of us at home. Growing up, I walked the halls of Guru Nanak School-Sion and later National College-Bandra, dreaming of a bigger life. In 1998, I packed my bags with barely any savings and moved to Saint Martin, a tiny Caribbean island, chasing a fresh start
I started small, selling tobacco through vending machines, but I had my eyes on something bigger. By 2002, I opened my first duty-free tobacco shop, and a year later, I added a liquor store. Step by step, I built my world—expanding into trading, distribution, and even producing my own rum, The Big Cane Rum, right here in St Kitts since 2022. There were tough moments, like when a global liquor giant, Diageo, dragged me to court in 2010, accusing me of shady practices. But I fought back, and in 2011, The Hague’s highest court ruled in my favor. That win wasn’t just about clearing my name—it showed me I could stand tall against any challenge.
